What type of writing can you get paid to do?

I love being a writer. I especially love that I can do it from home, because that allows me to earn income and still be here to homeschool my kids. If you're thinking of trying to earn income as a writer, you must choose what type of writing you want to do; however, you don't have to limit yourself to one kind. I get paid to do several types of writing. I'm rather spoiled, in fact, because I work for an awesome company that provides me opportunity (and pays me!) to write as a member of multiple, separate writing teams.

You may or may not work for one company only, or you might share your writing skills with numerous companies, or even get paid to write for individuals. The point is that, there are definitely ample opportunities available to earn income by writing and to do it from home.

Different types of writing

The following list is by no means extensive because there are hundreds of types of writing; however, these are a few examples of styles that are in demand and for which you have a good chance of using to earn income from home:

  • Legal copywriting: Have I mentioned how much I love my job and the company I work for? One of my primary duties at Vertu-marketing LLC is legal copywriting. This is a fancy way of saying that I get paid to blog for attorneys.
  • Online magazine writing: Check out Hot Mess Press. You'll notice my name in the list of authors that appears on this digital magazine site where readers go to enjoy a plethora of articles on a wide array of topics.
  • Other kinds of copywriting: Attorneys aren't the only ones who pay people to write content for them. Many other business owners who maintain websites or blogs as part of their marketing programs are looking for great writers to help them build copy or content.
  • Business description writer: Online companies such as Craigslist often hire people to write business descriptions for their directories.
  • Book author: Have you always dreamed of writing a book? Why not try to make your dream come true by submitting a manuscript for review to a publishing company such as Vertu Publishing, which happens to be a subsidiary of the company I work for.
  • Speech writer: A lot of people will pay good money to have someone write speeches for them. Whether you delve into the political arena or corporate work or other, if you have a knack for helping someone put their thoughts to paper and getting their message across, this might be a style of writing you'd enjoy.
As mentioned earlier, there are many other types of writing you can do as well but these are some of the most common styles that can provide ways for you to earn income from home. Don't shy away from a particular style because you have no experience with the topic. I knew little to nothing about personal injury law, medical malpractice or estate planning when I began work as a legal copywriter five years ago. You can learn as you go and a good company will have resources available to help you.
